British Shorthairs can become some of the largest domestic cats. They are called "Gentle Giants" because of their quiet, gentle and shy nature. These cats are affectionate and loving and don't demand a lot of attention. They are often referred to as "Teddy Bears", and I can vouch from my own experience, no matter how often I pick them up for a big old hug, they never get their claws out and are amazingly gentle and laid back. If fact they are so laid back, you'd think they were born to stay at home and watch TV!
